Albinism sufferers are one of the most marginalised and vulnerable groups of sub-Saharan Africa, because they are particularly exposed to the risk of skin cancer. Fondation Pierre Fabre is working alongside NGO Standing Voice on the development of special care programmes, first in Tanzania and then in Malawi.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The prevalence of albinism is between 4 and 5 times greater in sub-Saharan Africa than the world average. In certain regions of Tanzania and Malawi, albinism affects up to 1 person in every 1,500. Those with the condition have an exceptionally high risk of developing skin cancers and other skin conditions. Studies estimate that the majority die of skin cancer between the ages of 30 and 40*.<\/p>\n
